Just before 9:30 p.m. late Saturday, April 20, the Danbury Fire Department responded to a reported fire in the attic of the two-story house on Quien Street.
Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Bill Lounsbury found fire showing from an attic window on the south side of the 2-1/2 story wood frame two-family house, according to the Danbury Fire Department.
The Danbury Fire Department said the house's occupants were in the driveway and said everyone was safely out of the building and further related that there was a propane cylinder in the attic.
Being a highly unlikely place to encounter a propane cylinder, responders took extra precaution when entering the attic space, said the Danbury Fire Department report.
Engine 22 reported that they located a fire in the attic and that the propane cylinder was involved in the fire, venting from the pressure relief valve, according to the Danbury Fire Department.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and brought the propane cylinder outside to a safe location where it can be better secured, the report said.
Volunteers firefighters provided support and Danbury Hospital EMS was on scene for standby and then provided standard medical evaluation for responding firefighters, said Danbury Fire Department.
Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene to start their investigation, the report said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Fire units were on scene within four minutes of being dispatched and had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes from arrival time, according to the Danbury Fire Department.
There were no reported injuries and the house's occupants were able to go back inside the house once firefighter finished their operations, said the report.
Danbury fire officials remind residents of the following:
- Propane tanks should never be used or stored in living areas.
- They should only be used in an area outdoors and well ventilated.
- Propane cylinders should be safely stored in an outside secure location such as a tool shed.
